NZAC, ANZATA, MA (clinical) Arts Therapy, Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy, Certificate in Family Counselling
Jan trained as a psychotherapist and family counsellor in the UK in the 90s. As her life has progressed Jan has been drawn to using more creative approaches when working with clients. She has over 25 years experience offering counselling in a range of settings from family centres and schools to charities and counselling organisations and is now in private practice at the Arahura Centre. She works with individuals, adolescents, families and groups.
Jan has worked with a range of life challenges such as anxiety, sexual abuse, eating disorders, self-harm, grief and loss and parenting issues. For those clients who are interested she is able to offer the creative arts and movement as a doorway to exploring issues and challenges in life. When it is hard to find words or access insight creative modalities can sometimes take us deeper than expected.
Jan also offers family therapy to families struggling with sudden change or unexpected challenges. She is approved as an Arts Therapy supervisor by Whitecliffe College of Arts in Auckland.
Jan left the UK 13 years ago to travel and ended up falling in love in NZ – with both the country and a Kiwi – and feels blessed to call Aotearoa her home.
